The first official PPTC “Downtown Breakaway” ride of the season went off without a hitch. The weather forecast was threatening during the day (“likely severe thunderstorms by late afternoon,” mused Bob Ryan), but things never got bad and we enjoyed an unseasonably warm day for our ride (perhaps an April Fool’s Day joke on the meteorologists).
We had good turnout, with a lot of the old gang and a few new folks to add mystery to the mix. Winter didn’t treat some of the roads so well (e.g. Chain Bridge Road), but that didn’t matter to most. We did a spur off the normal Mohican Hills route to see the cherry blossoms in Kenwood, which were a highlight for all who turned out.
