I’m back.
I left my bag (with all of my clothes, bike included, as well as some other stuff) in the cab.
I know that cab company, but not the cab number.
DC has no central dispatch for cabs, nor does Union Station (where I obtained the cab).
I went to Union Station and tried to find a way to get in touch with the cabbie – no central dispatch, no lost-and-found.
I called the cab company, which doesn’t have central dispatch on weekends.
I’m mad at myself that I forgot the bag.
I’m mad at the city that it doesn’t have a central dispatch for cabs.
I’m mad at Union Station that it doesn’t have any central dispatch for cabs.
I called other cab companies, so I know where the bag might turn up. It does have identification in it (my street address and email), so there’s an off chance that I’ll get it back sometime before 2008.
Ugh.
What a day.
At least mom is on the mend and I’m back in DC.
But I’m missing The Polyphonic Spree because of my fruitless search to find my bag.
Oy.

Oh no! That really, REALLY sucks. I hope you’re somehow able to get them back. Oh man.

Any news on your bag?
I just left a bag in a dc cab last nite (24th)
ANd being a NYer it is frustrating that there is no central dispatch, or it seems anyway that know what cabs were where and when!
All ive been directed to is a taxi commision place that all the cabs are supposed to be dropping any lost items they have.
in theory that sounds like a good idea, but i don’t think a cab driver would go out of his way.
any other info you got in your search would be greatly appreciated.
best

Paul –
The driver returned my bag the next day. He discovered it in the morning, as he ran a customer to DCA, and returned it without any problem.
It’s a case of a great cabbie, to say the least!
I wish you luck in getting your luggage back. The DC.gov system is a pain, but I’ve heard it has a decent success rate. However, I’ve already contacted Fenty’s office about creating a central dispatch for cabs in the city – it’s amazingly short-sighted that none exists.
