Spent a thoroughly enjoyable weekend with our friends, Eri and Erik. Did a lot of fun things around DC:
- Ate at the National Museum of the American Indian
- Saw kites flying over The Mall
- Took in DC’s trademark cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin
- Ate yummy Indian and Thai food
- Saw the tiger cubs, a baby meerkat, a young sloth bear and Butterstick at the National Zoo
- Visited the National Cathedral and its grounds (my first time there, after living here for four years)
- Discovered the joys of cinnamon sticky rolls at Sticky Fingers vegan bakery
It was a fun weekend, and we walked a lot around the city.
. . . . .
Today the mercury hit 82 degrees Fahrenheit (25 degrees Celsius), and it was lovely weather for riding the bike to and from work.
However, the combined effects of the warm weather and the return of the tourists en masse to DC seems to have brought out the worst in local drivers, especially when there’s a bicycle (or a driver who is simply observing the speed limit and basic traffic laws ) is concerned. I was nearly hit a couple of times, and one driver who shot by my, honking his horn, ended up in a wreck a few blocks down from where he flew past me.
Asshat. He got what he deserved for driving like a brainless, self-centered idiot.
