smithsonian in mothballs

sprite and I went to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History on Sunday, the next-to-last day of its operation before a massive, two-year renovation.

It was weird. We’d been to the museum before, but this time much of it had been packed up into crates, ready to be moved either to cold storage or to other Smithsonian facilities in DC. But we were able to see the exhibits we wanted to see – namely, a wonderful exhibit of Muppets from Jim Henson’s personal collection.
