We made great time driving back from Leominster yesterday. The forecast rain was mostly light for the duration of the drive, and sprite and I switched off driving duties every two hours to prevent fatigue.
It seemed too good to be true….
…and it might have been just that.
I opened the door of The Burrow to discover a musty, wet-cat-litter smell.
Uh-oh.
Opening the apartment, I found that the floor by the window well was very soggy, as was the carpet around it, the cardboard cat scratchers, the carpets under the cat boxezs (thus the “wet litter” smell), and the floor underneath the TV shelves.
Damn and dast!
So we spent the next hour movnig stuff away, drying things off, salvaging the important things, and throwing away stuff that was beyond saving. Nothing important was lost, but it’s frustrating. The floor tiles are warped in that area, probably due to the fact that the flood occurred early in the weekend – Saturday was a deluge day in DC, with almost 7 inches of rain falling during a 30-hour period.
So the wetness sat until last night. Fun.
So we have to clean mildew and damp off of a couple of rugs and some wood furniture, as well as have our landlord repair the floor (and likely the concrete under the floor).
Joy….
