The PPTC Tuesday ride, on a day where the heat index was in the “unhealthy” zone. Storms were threatening at the beginning of the ride, but the thunder never transformed into wind or rain. Small group tonight, I ended up leading the BB group by default. After the 71-plus mile ride on the 4th, this was a cakewalk. Did the optional spur to Great Falls Nat’l Park, which adds a nice climb where I saw some deer (does with fawns). I also saw a woodpecker up close, as it flew about 3 feet away from me for a stretch of 500 meters or so – very cool. Our grupetto of four riders took the Clara Barton Parkway back from the Old Angler’s Inn area, which made for a fast paceline that sped the ride home (we averaged 25.5 mph on the parkway). My knee felt a lot better, too, due to lowering my seat 1 millimeter.
