Just saw President Clinton on Letterman. Dave asked Bill about the Downing Street Memo, and Clinton asked, “what’s that?” Dave explained the basics of the DSM, and Bill was still lost for words.
That’s right: President Clinton was lost for words.
sprite and I both though the same thing: it’s really bad form for an ex-president with good foreign policy credentials to not know about these things.
Perhaps he was just playing dumb, trying not to reveal any info or piss off the Bush clan – after all, he’s going to their Kennebunkport, ME, compound at the end of the month to hang out with George H.W. Bush, his new buddy. And I can completely see Bill playing dumb to cover his butt, but still – it’s pretty poor form.

Sounds more like Clinton playing cafeful, but I would like to have had Bubba come out swinging for the good guys. What does he have to lose by supporting his party now? Sad…
