It’s oppressively hot outside: mid-to-upper 80s, high humidity, and stagnant air. It’s enough to keep you inside for unhealthy stretches of time.
Today was supposed to be the first softball game of the season. Both sprite and I are on a team that Darren organized, and we’re really looking forward to showing off our rusty skills on the diamonds in West Potomac Park.
However, there were some torrential, epic thunderstorms earlier this week (we couldn’t even see across the street from our windows in The Burrow during one of them), and these storms did not spare the park. As such, there are a few, shall we say, “temporary bodies of water” in the midst of the basepaths. D.C. Parks & Rec decided that running, throwing, catching, hitting and sliding in the water and mud was not a good situation for either the players or the field, so our already-postponed season start is postponed yet another week.
At least we’ll get a chance to practice a bit before the first game.
